ARTE - Eyes

”The spirituality of the eyes is something like a sigh. What happens when you sigh? – you are happy that you are set free or you have prepared for receiving something. You are happy that you are discharged from a multitude of shameful false lies, from a mad lunacy, a deranged, lowly, poor, distorted comedy, which is so full of sweet, captivating magic, full of mistakes and pleasures, foolishness and rapture – and prepares for receiving seriousness, truth, and reality, for receiving what is human at its highest, what is deep, eternal, and solemn, and what is fearful and fatally sad. Aesop’s eyes see this foolish joy mixed with fearful sorrow, this sweet comedy wrapped in deception, this solemn sorrow intermingled with unworthy nonsensical rapture.’’

(Béla Hamvas: Velázquez)
